What can an AI career coach help with?
Useful tasks include turning a vague concern into questions, summarising evidence you provide and suggesting small next actions to investigate. The quality depends on the information supplied, the system’s design and whether the output is checked.
For example, ask for three questions to explore why a role appeals to you, then answer them using your own experience. Treat suggestions as hypotheses. A confident explanation is not evidence that a role, salary or qualification claim is correct.
AI coaching and human coaching serve different needs
An AI tool can provide repeatable prompts and help structure a written reflection. A human coach can ask follow-up questions based on the relationship and professional judgement. Human services also vary, so check qualifications, scope, fees and how the coach works.
If you need specialist recruitment, legal, financial or health advice, choose appropriate qualified support. Career reflection tools do not replace those services. Neither an app nor a coaching conversation can guarantee a job or promotion.
A practical example of checking an AI suggestion
Fictional example: a tool suggests that a customer support worker should become a business analyst. Instead of accepting the title, list the tasks that appeal, compare real role descriptions and ask what evidence supports the match.
A useful next action might be interviewing a practitioner about their daily work or documenting a small process improvement. Check qualifications and job-market claims against current primary sources. If the suggestion relies on a fact about you that is wrong, correct it before continuing.
Check privacy before uploading your CV
Read the provider’s policy and settings for retention, AI providers, training use, deletion, export and sharing. Check whether the service needs the full CV or whether a shorter description would answer the question. Privacy claims differ between services and can change.
Remove unnecessary contact details, third-party personal information and confidential employer material. Do not assume a private-looking chat has no retention or sharing. If you cannot understand the policy, ask the provider before supplying sensitive information.
What OTO Careers offers and what is available now
OTO Careers describes bounded AI-supported reflection within its Flourish plan; it is not human coaching or an unlimited chat service. Its career record and development features are intended to help organise evidence and choices rather than certify ability or promise employment.
The public guides, worksheets and product information are available now. Account sign-in and private workspaces remain in private preview. Read the current pricing, FAQ and privacy pages for the intended service and its boundaries; a live guide does not mean public account access has launched.
